Abstract

Many new applications exploit Grid computing to meet growing computational needs. Effective Grid computing systems require scheduling mechanisms that encourage optimal use of available resources. In this paper we address scheduling network related problems of Grid. We consider a public-resource computing system that has many common features with Grid systems. but is mainly destined for use in a less formal environment. Since the system is collaborative and since every user requires information/data feedback, the major issue: is to provide an effective system for data distribution. Therefore, we formulate and discuss 4 optimization problems that apply the following transmission approaches: unicast, Peer-to-Peer, anycast and multicast. We present numerical results to demonstrate major characteristics of the Peer-to-Peer approach.
