Abstract
Encompasses bacteria isolated from soil environments and maternally transmitted endosymbionts of nematodes within the class spartobacteria (Sangwan etal., 2004). The order contains the family Chthoniobacteraceae. Delineation of the order is determined primarily by phylogenetic information from 16S rRNA gene sequences. All known members of the order are rod-shaped or pleomorphic cells that are Gram-stain-negative and have a Gram-stain-negative cell structure.
