Abstract
As part of the Brookings Scholar Lecture Series, Brookings Mountain West presents a lecture titled "Can the United States Escape the Middle East?" by Brookings Senior Fellow in the Center for Middle East Policy, Tamara Wittes. The U.S. is beginning to pull back from the greater Middle East. However, violent crises, the continued risk of terrorism, and pressure from local partners are challenging the ability of the U.S. to leave the region. This lecture presents possibilities for a redefined American path that may lead the U.S. out of the Middle East.
