The purpose of this second edition (2018) of the Teacher Workforce Report (TWR) is to provide a state of the field of teacher workforce in Nevada. To that end, the authors and project staff utilized extant Title II and Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Teacher Education dashboard data as well as school district and charter school vacancy data to develop a portrait of teacher candidate production and the need for teachers in Nevada. Key features of the report:

• The second edition of the TWR is intended to continue the dialogue concerning the Nevada teacher workforce and teacher shortage; it includes three-year trend data (Academic Years [AY] 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19) related to teacher vacancy and teacher candidate enrollment and completion rates.

• Using feedback and lessons learned from the first edition data collection process, the authors and project staff worked to expand and streamline the vacancy data collection process. This second edition includes data from three constituent groups (i.e., traditional district schools, district-sponsored charter schools, external charter school organizations [State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA)]). However, the process of collecting educator vacancy data is still in its relative infancy and focus of this Report is based on available data; thus, data inconsistencies must be considered alongside a discussion of the data. • Where possible, survey data are presented in the context of available Title II, Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) teacher education dashboard1, and Nevada Department of Education data2. • Any discussion of education in Nevada, including those concerning the teacher shortage, must consider the vast differences that exist in county size and student population across the state.
