Abstract

Abstract:

Casino Guru has launched the non-profit Global Self-Exclusion Initiative in 2020 with the goal to create a global self-exclusion system, which will allow players to block their access to all online gambling options at once simply and effectively, thus decreasing overall gambling harm and making gambling safer.

The limited scope of current self-exclusion possibilities tends to cover only a single operator or a single jurisdiction. Consequently, these cannot create an effective barrier for players that choose to self-exclude to minimize further gambling harm because their gambling habits have gotten out of hand. A global scheme is much better positioned for effective harm reduction by making it more difficult for vulnerable and/or recovering players to access online gambling when feeling an urge to play.

The presentation will outline the current state of self-exclusion options in online gambling, including unique data analyses of operators accepting players from multiple jurisdictions, and the scale of cross-jurisdiction gambling opportunities. Further focus will be aimed at the details of the proposed formation of the Global Self-Exclusion System (GSES), including an outline of technical specifications and requirements of the system, as well as the reasoning behind the specifics of the proposed implementation and its benefits for players.

Statement:

Currently available self-exclusion options are inadequate to protect vulnerable and addicted players. A global scheme in the form of non-profit Global Self-Exclusion System, as outlined in the presentation, has the potential to create a more effective barrier between these players and online gambling opportunities, and therefore decrease overall gambling harm.
