Abstract
Gambling disorder often surfaces from consumer problems such as multiple debts, and as dependency progresses, it often spills over into various social life problems such as poverty, abuse, suicide, and crime. Therefore, organizations that may be involved with people with such problems need to deepen their understanding of gambling disorders and recognize and respond to the problems of dependence lurking in the background of those they counsel.
The Shimane Counseling Center for Mental and Physical Health, one of 69 mental health and welfare centers in Japan, addresses the issue of support for people with gambling disorders at three different levels. The three levels are "support by specialists," "low-intensity support," and "early detection and connection to related organizations.
Training programs are provided for each support issue, and efforts are made to develop human resources for various support personnel belonging to each related organization. In addition, as for professional support, we continue to provide technology to mental health welfare centers nationwide. At this conference, we will introduce the practices of these three training programs.
