Abstract

Presentation abstract:

Gambling has a significant impact on many aspects of social reality and has therefore long been a subject of interest for various scientific disciplines. However, research to date has generally focused on hard forms of gambling, while soft forms of gambling have been neglected. Yet these are the most widespread and accessible forms of gambling. The presented poster seeks to fully understand the phenomenon of gambling with varying degrees of social danger in the context of real life, i.e. particularly in its geographical and psychological context. On the basis of a systematic literature review, existing studies dealing with gambling and its impact on society were identified and analysed. On the basis of predefined keywords, publications dealing with this issue were selected from scientific databases. The authors' aim was to examine the existing studies and compare the different methods and approaches used.

Implication statements:

Citizens of post-communist countries experienced the coming of legal gambling as a more drastic shock than did those of Western countries. They were more overtly encouraged by the ideological environment to perceive it as a natural part of general liberal reform package. Young people are among vulnerable groups.

Keywords

gambling, young people, soft forms of gambling, risk level, legislative, availability
