Description
I conducted some research in cybersecurity to observe the implications of surrendering driving control to powerful computers. Computer attacks are frequent, and they are likely to continue with new technologies like the self-driving car. Proponents argue that autonomous vehicles will reduce the number of DUI cases, but the image serves to convey otherwise. A hacker, represented by the hooded person in the driver’s seat, does not need alcohol to provoke a DUI. A vulnerability in the communication system can be exploited by the hacker to influence the way a vehicle operates, reinforcing the importance of further research in computer security.
