This photo was taken in Nuevo Vedado, a neighborhood in Havana, Cuba. It features an elderly couple holding hands walking down the street. As a writer, my research is sometimes less formal than other areas of study. My research often involves people, lives, and experiences of the public. This image has me asking about the intimate and romantic lives of this couple. My writing and research centers on the sentiment of the moment, on vulnerability, and poetry. This photo and my poetry act as presentation without intervention. My research investigates the landscape of longing, trying to preserve a time and place, a people, a feeling that will never return.
