One of the most gratifying aspects of my research is returning to my study sites to see native animals using it as habitat. My research centers on restoring desert ecosystems that have been disturbed by human use. In this photo, the lizard is enjoying some shade and protection from predators in what was previously a completely bare, decommissioned road. Some volunteers and I installed different restoration treatments along this road to find out what works best for restoring the ecosystem. The lizard’s personal preference is clear but there is still plenty of work to be done to answer this question.
