Seeds of Success: Photographing The Birth of Flowering Plants

Description

The embryonic leaves (cotyledons) are the first structures to emerge from the earth as a flowering plant begins its life. Although incredibly small, cotyledons provide a wealth of information regarding structure and appearance, internally and externally, of the future full-grown plant. By photographing the early stages of emerging seedlings in the greenhouse, a unique desert plant identification guide will be produced as part of my research in the eastern Mojave. I hope this guide will inspire land managers, nature enthusiasts and even students. Big things can start off in small packages!
