You Look Fly – Population Preference in Drosophila mojavensis

Description

It is interesting to see which fly populations like to mate with which, especially if they differ in geographic origin. Pictured is a male (left) and female (right). Looking under a microscope, one can see that males and females differ in genital plating, color, and size. Correctly sexing these flies is an important part of studying this theme. This is the first step to understanding which populations prefer to mate with which. Studying population preference within D. mojavensis is important because not much is known about what populations they prefer.
