Abstract

The melt pool could form in the nuclear reactor lower plenum under a hypothetic severe accident. In such condition, remaining the integrity of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) is treated as one of the severe accident management strategies. The investigation of melt pool natural convection behavior is one of the most important aspects in the in-vessel retention (IVR) investigation. Various experimental and numerical research regarding the internally heated melt pool natural convection behavior has been conducted before. However, there is a lack of comprehensive investigation of internally heated melt pool natural convection behavior. The numerical investigation of the internally heated melt pool natural convection behavior with the consideration of different high internal Rayleigh numbers is conducted in this work. This work could bring the reference for the further investigation of internally heated molten pool natural convection behavior.
