Abstract
The transition to parenthood is an exciting time for couples; however it also presents unique challenges. Many couples use technology to navigate these challenges and to stay better connected. The purpose of this qualitative study was to discover how couples use technology to navigate obstacles and to stay connected during pregnancy. Findings indicate technology enables couples to be more accessible to one another, to be connected to their partner in various ways, and allows couples to more easily communicate their individual experience throughout pregnancy. Technology was also found to create distance between couples when used in unproductive ways. Therapists should make use of the Couple and Family Technology Framework, which outlines specific ways that technology can be used to enhance the couple relationship during pregnancy.
