While archives of the tragedy exist in many locations in the Las Vegas Valley and memorials remembering its victims, survivors, and bereaved families and friends continue throughout the community, this digital collection includes selected UNLV presentations, remembrances, and information in response to the 1 October 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in United States history. The tragedy occurred during the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, a country music festival, held annually from 2014 until 2017, at the Las Vegas Village, a 15-acre outdoor venue located just to the northeast of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. At 10:05 pm for about ten minutes, the shooter fired more than one thousand bullets from a 32nd floor suite into the crowd of attendees. Fifty-eight concertgoers died during and immediately after the event and two more died during the years since, totaling sixty deaths as of this posting date (December 3, 2021).
Additional archival collections on the 1 October 2017 tragedy are held in the UNLV Special Collections & Archives division of the University Libraries.
