Abstract
A memoir, "The Castles We Built" investigates how whiteness and masculinity intersect with education, violence, poverty, and Christianity through my experiences growing up in the suburban Midwest. Used as an extended metaphor, I trace the way the castle reproduces white supremacy in various personal, sociopolitical, and economic spaces.
