Abstract
Teacher education, traditionally a highly structured series of professional development opportunities, should endeavor to transcend conventional boundaries of tabula rasa, rote, or procedural learning. This chapter posits a humanist "glocal" model of teacher education which centers engagement, interaction, uncertainty, and love as loci of change. U.S. teachers participating in a professional development abroad in Chile act to exemplify glocalty and cultural connectivity as individuals navigate affinity and divide with Chilean students and teachers. We punctuate these instances of glocality with the lyrics of Paul Simons' "You Can Call Me Al," framing, encapsulating, and accentuating feelings held by the authors and participants.
