Abstract
In White Christian Privilege: The Illusion of Religious Equality in America, Khyati Y. Joshi leverages her lived experiences as a Hindu Indian American Woman of Color with academic expertise and educational commitments to teaching about race, religion, and immigration in the United States. The book is well-researched, makes well-supported arguments from various points of entry, discusses historical and current events, and shares interview narratives from people across faiths, including white Christians. Joshi recounts personal experiences and offers critical insights in highlighting the insidious discrimination and oppression endured by members of religiously minoritized and marginalized groups in the United States that derive from structural mechanisms initiated and perpetuated by systemic white Christian hegemony. Despite its highly intellectual content, the style of writing reaches beyond academia to welcome a broader readership.
