Abstract
Cocci or coccobacilli that are 0.4-0.9 µm in diameter. Non-sporeforming. Motile via a single flagellum. Gram-stain-negative. Colonies are nonpigmented. Facultatively or obligately anaerobic. Mesophilic or moderately thermophilic. Chemoorganotrophic. Ferment mono- and disaccharides to organic acids with or without production of H2 and C02. Peptides and amino acids are not fermented.
