Abstract
The issue of labor shortage in Macao has been drawing increasing attention due to the expeditious development in these few years. Labor shortage, as one of the biggest challenges to the hotel industry, is posing notable obstacles to the industry development, and has given rise to a number of human resources management difficulties for the hotel industry in Macau. This study reviews the hotel industry development and the labor market environment in Macau, and investigates the current situation of labor shortage within the industry, including the foundational causes and its negative impacts. In addition, there are recommendations of possible implications for both the hotel industry as well as the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government to improve and sustain the future of the hotel industry in Macau.
