Abstract
Pierce counsels that presidents avoid speaking on controversial issues not affecting their campus and to use humor with discretion. Aspiring presidents can learn how to improve their candidacy, and perhaps more importantly, obtain a better understanding of the trials engrained in the upper echelon and the characteristics needed to persevere. Since many trustee board members come from outside academia, this book can pro- vide the presidential perspective of the role of the trusteeship.
