Abstract
Over the past ten years, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has developed several policy documents, such as the Responsible Gaming Framework and the Advertising White Paper and funded numerous studies such as the Responsible Gaming and the Prevention Paradox and MAGIC, to inform harm mitigation strategies and the development of programs such as GameSense, Voluntary Self-Exclusion, and PlayMyWay. In August 2022, a Sports Wagering law passed in Massachusetts. At the writing of this proposal, the authors are evaluating how to apply the current “Massachusetts Model” of responsible gaming to sports wagering. This session will review key research findings and policy decisions and how they may be applied to a responsible gaming framework in Massachusetts. Presenters will also review key differences and propose an approach that remains in line with the “Massachusetts Model.”
