Abstract
In 1814-15, an epoch came to an end in Europe during which an almost unbroken chain of wars had devastated large parts of the continent. The monarchs and statesmen assembled at the Congress of Vienna in 1814/15 reorganized Europe, especially in territorial terms. But there was also a neglected attempt to establish a pan-European peace culture by reversing thought. In September, on the initiative of the Russian tsar, the "Holy Alliance" was born, which wanted to initiate this process of change on the basis of a non-denominational Christianity. The "Holy Alliance" was much more than a proclamation of noble principles; she enlisted in the international power politics of the following decade, and also fell into literature, theology, and the fine arts.
