Newton's third rule of philosophizing has recently been investigated from several points of view: by studying the vicissitudes of its metamorphosis from "hypothesis" to "rule," 1 the fact of its argumentation by four sentences in its languages, 2 the scholarly signigicance of its editorial history. 3
