Abstract
My MFA Thesis is a collection of six, linked short stories centering on a particular family who lives in Las Vegas. The stories span several decades, from the sixties to present day. They are based around the struggles of the family, both as individuals and as a unit, to overcome the unique problems of living in a city that is isolated yet filled with possibilities; The central figure is Tommy, the patriarch, who came to Las Vegas as a young man looking to make a name for himself. He has a knack for getting into trouble, but has a greater desire to provide for his family and make them proud. In addition to Tommy, are his wife Sandy, ex-wife Sheila, daughters Teresa and Jean, and brothers Phil and Lou. These characters move in and out of the stories as the family evolves throughout each period.
