Abstract
This thesis is a collection of stories submitted as required by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for completion of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. These short pieces of fiction are narrated by women from a small town on the edge of the Black Rock Desert in the northern part of the state of Nevada as they engage with outsiders passing through, interact with the harsh expanses of wilderness surrounding their home, and contend with the changing economic landscape of the area.
