Abstract
Set between the Argentine military’s secret prisons in the 1970s and the open-air prison of besieged Sarajevo in the 1990s, THE WORLD OF THE LIVING is a novel that asks how people and societies construct the narratives of heroism and victimhood that sustain them, for better or worse, and examines the stories people create to justify or cope with the unspeakable.
