Director's Message: 2023 marks the twenty-fourth year of WRIN as a statewide research and educational institute. As we progress through our second decade we continue to be optimistic despite changing staff, fluctuating economic times, and shifting resources. As we navigated those challenges, we have been grateful for the university’s unwavering commitment and the community’s constant support. We have settled into our new offices at Maryland Parkway and Rochelle after our January 2023 move and appreciate the additional space and easy accessibility both for our staff and community visitors.

Director's Message: We began 2023 with our long-anticipated office move. We are now located in the Maryland Administrative Building (MAB1) across Maryland Parkway on Rochelle Avenue. It is a welcome change, with expanded space to adequately meet our staffing needs. Our Veterans' Voices oral history staff members are now able to work together with us in the new office space. We truly feel like a team!
We have also just launched our Barbara Agonia Empowerment Scholarship, recently renamed in honor of our first Community Advisory Board chair. Barbara served with determination and grace during the early years of WRIN's existence. Despite our many institutional challenges, Barbara met all with compassionate leadership, which became her hallmark. This scholarship honors Barbara's legacy by providing a $2,000 award to undergraduate students who work to uplift the lives of women and/or girls. The 2023-2024 awards will be announced this Spring.

Honoring a life well lived...It is with great sadness that we share the news of Barbara Agonia's recent death. Barbara was a friend to WRIN for decades. It is often said that our accomplishments are not truly our own, as we stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us. Barbara's impact on WRIN will resonate for years to come. Diminutive in stature yet magnanimous in spirit, Barbara served as Chair of WRIN's Inaugural Community Advisory Board (CAB) created in 2000. We were a very young institute then without much of a track record or community support. Barbara enthusiastically took the reins, brought along her Soroptimist sisters, and forged ahead - always a cheerful ambassador for our work.

Director's Message: On October 21st we returned to in-person community engagement with our CraftHaus Brewery Friendraiser even in downtown Las Vegas. Our thanks to Chair Jeff Rodefer of the Nevada State Bar's Gaming Law Section for sponsoring this event. It was a beautiful evening allowing us to mingle outdoors with longtime supporters and new friends. We look forward to hosting more friendraiser events around the community. If you have a connection at a friendly venue, please let us know!

Director's Message: 2021 has FINALLY arrived! Most applauded closing the door on 2020, yet in hindsight, 2020 proved what resilience we have when put to the test. We became creative and learned new platforms. We found ways to engage and create while working remotely. We are still using our virtual platforms, but they no longer seem so onerous and cumbersome - we've acclimated!

Interim Director's Message: As an institute, WRIN's activities always increase during the spring months. It is during this time that we accept our incoming NEW Leadership Class and prepare for their June training. Early this March, just as we accepted the final students for our upcoming 2020 Class, Governor Sisolak ordered severe activity restrictions in response to COVID-19.
