Abstract
Jane Smiley's novel Thousand Acres, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1992 and is based on William Shakespeare's King Lear, has been published in 96 editions from 1991-2010 and is held by 4,383 libraries worldwide. Jane's other novels include The Age of Grief, The Greenlanders, Ordinary Love and Good Will, Horse Heaven, Good Faith, Ten Days in the Hills, and Moo, a satiric portrayal of University life. Her essays have appeared in Vogue, The New Yorker, Practical Horseman, Harper's, The Nation, and Allure among others. In 2001, Jane was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters and then in 2006 was received the PEN USA Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature.
