Abstract
Melinda Moustakis was born in Alaska and raised in Bakersfield, California. Her first book is a series of related stories about life in the frozen north, "Bear Down, Bear North." She particularly emphasizes fishing on the rugged Kenai River in all its harsh reality. The book won the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction.
