Abstract

This fictional work explores the manner the story's protagonist, Cam Madden, evolves after he decides to become a police officer. The story follows the progression from testing, being hired, completing a police academy, working the street, and promoting to detective. Circumstances during this progression shape the protagonist's persona until he changes from innocent to cynic, which affects all aspects of his life---love, work, and play. Cam's evolution is the primary backdrop, but there is another that places the elements of story, scene, and character within a historical and contemporary context and those elements against the procedure and methodology of the large metropolitan police department that operates in Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada.
